I have been drawing pet portraits for over a decade, and I know it can sometimes be difficult to get a perfect reference photo—pets don’t always cooperate, or maybe only older photos are available. I get it! Please don’t let a less-than-perfect photo keep you from reaching out. Sometimes a mini portrait or an ornament is the perfect way to capture a beloved family member. I am happy to work with most images to create a lasting keepsake, but if you're taking new photos, here are a few tips:
In-focus: Sharp details make for the best drawings.
Close-up/Portrait: Aim for a clear view of the subject.
Eyes and Nose: These are the most expressive parts—try to ensure they are clear and in focus.
Lighting: Soft, natural light is best. Avoid using a flash or harsh, direct sunlight.
Remember: The better the photo, the better the finished drawing!
What’s the process for booking a portrait?
Browse: Check out portraits page and decide which size best fits your space.
Inquire: Use the Inquire tab to send me your reference photos.
Confirm: Once we choose the best photo, you can purchase your chosen size to officially get on my books!
Schedule: I will provide a tentative start date and email you when I begin working on your piece.
It really is that easy to commission a piece of custom artwork!
What is the wait time?
Turnaround: My typical turnaround time is 2–6 weeks after I begin your piece. I will give you an estimated start date at the time of booking.
Updates: I love sharing the process with you, so I will send progress photos throughout the drawing process.
Do you only take pet commissions?
NO! I’m up for most animal and wildlife pieces and LOVE home portraiture as well!
