Welcome to my studio
Hello and welcome! I am so happy you’re here.
If you’ve followed my art for a while, you know I’m a bit obsessed with the power of black and white via graphite, charcoal, ink and the quiet, soulful look of the animals I love to draw. I’ve been thinking about starting this journal for a long time, mostly because I wanted a place to share the "in-between" moments of my life as a self-taught artist.
Right now, life is a bit of a whirlwind! My husband and I are in the middle of building our home, which means my "studio" is currently wherever I can find a flat surface and decent light. But, even without a fancy setup, the drawing never stops. Whether it’s a detailed portrait of a client's pet or a realistic wildlife piece, I find that drawing is the best way to capture the "purest form of love" I see in animals.
In this journal, I’m planning to pull back the curtain on my process, from the smudges and messy graphite fingers to the reference photos that inspire me. I’ll share some of my drawing experiments .. I am loving toned paper! Heck , I might even share some house-building updates or a recipe now and then since I love baking.
Thank you for being here, for looking at my work, and for being part of this new chapter. If you have any questions or just want to say hi, feel free to drop a comment below!
See ya soon,
Jessica
